Visit to NAB

Tata Interactive Systems (TIS) employees have participated in various activities as part of the Tata Volunteering week.

Some employees joined Tata Teleservices volunteers at the National Association for the Blind (NAB - India) on 15th September 2015. Since NAB’s inception, it has been promoting the interests of people with vision loss in India. One of the activities undertaken by NAB (India) is the Braille Press that prints textbooks of all subjects for English and Marathi medium students of Class I to XII that is supplied to schools all over India. The TIS volunteers helped members of the Braille Press by assembling and organizing the pages of books, binding and compiling them. The volunteers who participated were very happy and content that they could give their time and help in various activities that ensured the timely completion of the printing of books. The volunteers especially appreciated the tour of the NAB premises, especially the talking centre where many of them registered themselves as volunteers for being home readers for visually challenged students and vocal artistes who would record the learning material for visually challenged students.

Seeing the willingness of the volunteers, NAB officials also sought their help to sort and count votes for their internal elections that was to be conducted on 20th September. The volunteers participated in this activity too.

Visit to Little More

A few employees of Tata Interactive Systems also volunteered to spend time with 50 cancer affected children at the Tata Cancer Hospital on 15th September 2015, along with volunteers of Tata Motors. Some of the activities conducted for the children involved colouring, viewing an animation movie, playing music and dancing. The event was facilitated by an NGO, Little More, and the PRO office of the Hospital. "Little More" is dedicated to making the life of cancer fighters a bit easier and giving light in an otherwise gloomy world. The employees of TIS interacted with the children and a few parents and realised it was a great initiative and endeavour by the TATA group to create awareness of cancer amongst the rural population.

Sincere thanks to Tata Teleservices and Tata Motors for introducing us to NAB and Little More, and the noble endeavours both these organisations do.

Aided by an NGO which works in this field, many employees from PT TMI along with family members voluntarily participated in this event which had to happen in the night when the targeted recipients are free after their daily struggles. The best part is that the team of volunteers had both Indian and Indonesian members who worked with one goal – contributing their most precious possession – their time - for the good of the society.

Although it is a very small step and may not permanently change much on the ground, this showed the commitment of the organization and its employees to return back to the society where we operate. This engagement got the team so excited that they want to do this more regularly and not restrict it to only the TVW.
