About Tata Volunteering Week 4

The fourth edition of Tata Volunteering Week, launched on 5th September 2015 to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Charity, offered a range of company-organized volunteering opportunities across 70 locations. TVW4 witnessed participation of senior leaders, employees, family members and retirees who came together to ‘Trigger a Change reaction’’. Over 900 volunteering activities were undertaken by 30+ Tata companies in collaboration with over 400+ partners (non-profits, panchayats, schools, hospitals etc.). Volunteers contributed their time, effort and expertise to causes like environment, education, health, women and child welfare, cleanliness & awareness drives and skills enhancement and participated in initiatives at orphanages, old age homes, schools, hospitals, villages and local communities.

Glimpses of TVW4:

Tata companies undertook several cleanliness campaigns reiterating the importance of clean environment with a focus on health and hygiene. Several volunteers also undertook skill development activities like technical training for engineering students, English language speaking, sports coaching, paper bag and jewelry making, cooking classes and life skills training with children, youth and women. In a one of a kind activity, a group of Tata volunteers helped a local farmer significantly boost his income over the next 3-4 years by planting 30 high yielding varieties of pepper cultivars in the existing areca nut trees on his premises. They also connected him to the company’s local scientist for technical help in his agri ventures.

In the US, volunteers came together to build a town home for a family in need. In US and Canada, Tata volunteers got together to bring the magic of books to children in need by sorting and distributing 20,000 new books in communities where Tata has operations.

UK & Ireland volunteers raised £ 4500 for Macmillan Cancer Support through the Coffee Morning events organised in 16 locations. More than 100 volunteers baked, donated and sold delicious sweet and savoury treats with +500 participating in fun challenges, enjoying the food and making donations to the partner charity.

In China, Tata Sons and TCS volunteers helped donate and set up a library to a local elementary school and brought 1,000 books and 5 bookshelves for 160 pupils.
